DESCRIPTION
This course focuses on teaching the optic for reactive and proactive use, instead of being another shooting class.
We will address human and legal factors while covering what does and doesn’t change with switching to a PMO. Students will develop a knowledge-based foundation for addressing equipment, training, program, and policy development concerns.

EXPECTATIONS AND OUTCOMES
Students will develop a knowledge-based foundation for addressing equipment, training, program, and policy development concerns. They will be able to implement an agency’s pistol mounted optics transition program.
DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS
Completion of Rangemaster’s Advanced Instructor course or a state (POST, TCOLE, etc) or nationally recognized (NRA-LEAD, FBI) L/E firearms instructor course.
You will be asked for a copy of that cert.
REQUIREMENTS
Note-taking materials. 650 rounds of reliable pistol ammunition, mid to full-size handgun w/optic, proper holster, three magazines with pouches, a suitable belt, and a handheld light. Eye & ear protection, appropriate range attire for the weather conditions. Fluids, and snacks.
90$ Facility fee will be payable first day of class. Class times will run 2-5pm on Friday and 8-6pm on Sat/Sun

Erick Gelhaus has a Master of Public Administration degree from Norwich University.
A published author since 2003, Erick has written for SWAT, Soldier of Fortune, TTPOA’s COMMAND, American Handgunner, GUNS magazines, ModernServiceWeapons.com, and AmericanCop.com. A frequent podcast guest, he has appeared on Primary & Secondary, GUNS Magazine, The GunCranks, EvoSec, That Weems Guy, and the Off-Duty/On-Duty shows.
From the Cold War to the GWOT, Erick served in all three components of the US Army. The highlight as a heavy weapons squad leader in ground combat. His law enforcement career spanned three decades. During that time, he worked, or supervised, assignments in patrol, gang suppression, investigations, and field training, as well as the special operation unit’s technical support team at his former organization.
In addition to owning Cougar Mountain Solutions, Erick is a Gunsite rangemaster and has been teaching there since 2000. Because of his experience with pistol mounted optics, he was tasked with developing Gunsite’s program. When he retired from a large California sheriff’s office, he was supervising the use of force/firearms training program. Prior to that he had been the lead instructor for several years.
During his time with the sheriff’s office, he was decorated for valor, meritorious service, and lifesaving by that organization and the state of California.
Over the last three decades, Erick has trained with several well-known instructors and entities. His complete CV and resume are available upon request to fulfill any contractual obligations.
He is a longtime competitive shooter, currently shooting IDPA Carry Optics in the expert class.
